Growth of Medicare - Statistic


• The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services projects a one point jump in the healthcare share of GDP from 16.6% in 2008 to 17.6% in 2009

• By 2018 national health spending is expected to be $4.4 trillion and 20% of GDP

• By 2016 government spending (mostly Medicare and Medicaid) will account for more than half of all US expenditures on healthcare

* Medicare is expected to grow from 3.3% of GDP in 2010 to 10% in 2070

*Recently Medicare has become more aggressive in pursuing recoveries from other insurers.
